Ode to Spring| Happy Easter!

Spring is well underway, and I love watching it unfold.  The colors and beauty are everywhere! Of course, this can be said of every season, but of spring, perhaps, in particular 🙂 In the yard, on my walks, running errands–the lushness and variety of colors in the woods, the wildflowers in the field and along the streets…I am amazed by it all.

Recently, on my way to pick up a car in the shop, I had to drive across this cool old steel bridge.  There are two osprey nests on this bridge, and I have often seen the birds in their nests. But this time–what a treat–as I was crossing the bridge, I saw an osprey returning to its nest, fish in tow. I felt a little bad for the fish, but it was an awesome sight, nonetheless 🙂 Later, on the same drive, I saw a beautiful black foal in a pasture, frolicking and running around.

Seeing these two beautiful creatures (the osprey and the frolicking foal) was a treat. Indeed, the whole drive was–amazing pastures and trees and shade and light… Life sure can be beautiful ❤️

There’s a John Denver song that I LOVE that captures what I was feeling that day on my drive. It’s called, appropriately, Spring 🙂 It’s part of a suite of songs called Season Suite found on his Portrait album. Here it is for your enjoyment:

And here are the meaningful lyrics:

Open up your eyes and see the brand new day
Clear blue sky and brightly shining sun
Open up your ears and hear the breezes say
Everything that’s cold and gray is gone

Open up your hands and feel the rain come on down
Taste the wind and smell the flowers sweet perfume
Open up your mind and let the light shine in
The earth has been reborn and life goes on

Do you care what’s happening around you?
Do your senses know the changes when they come?
Do you see yourself reflected in the seasons?
Do you understand the need to carry on?

Riding on the tapestry of all there is to see
So many ways and oh so many things
Rejoicing in the differences. There’s no one just like me
Yet as different as we are we’re still the same

Did it move you? ? ?

Of course, spring also brings Easter–a special holiday for those of the Christian faith. The Easter celebration is the biggest and most significant one on the Christian calendar. For me, the meaning of resurrection and rebirth are apparent all around me each spring. The concepts also have personal meaning as I consider my life, personal growth, and the passage of time.

May you find meaning  in the celebration of Easter and the beauty of spring. As JD sings, “open up your eyes and see the brand new day” this Easter and each day, and “feel a part of everything [you] see!”

Happy Easter! ??
