Feeling good about yourself (aka having high self-esteem) is a wonderful thing. Generally, people might think about it more in terms of how it relates to happiness. But it also relates to independence. (Of course, in actual fact, self-esteem is connected to lots of things in one’s life 🙂 )
In this post, you’ll learn the following:
● How raising your self-esteem can help establish your independence
● How raising your self-esteem can help ensure you retain your independence
● How to raise your self-esteem – basic practices to get you started
Raising Self-Esteem Boosts Your Confidence
The primary way that raising self-esteem contributes to your independence is by boosting your confidence. Confidence makes doing things on your own easier because, well, you’re confident you can do it (see what I mean about inter-related?) 😉
Confidence contributes to your ability to figure out all the myriad things that need figuring out in life. It also makes it easier to handle all the decisions that need to be made in day to day living.
Raising Self-Esteem Raises Self-Worth
As you learn to value yourself more, you also start to realize that you are worthy of good things. You’ll find yourself settling less and less and truly going after what it is you want in life. You will be less prone to let others control you, treat you poorly, or take advantage you.
Higher Self-Esteem (Confidence) Helps You Maintain Your Independence
Understanding that you are deserving of good things as part of having self-confidence bolsters your independence as it prompts your to seek out situations and people and things…again, it’s all connected 🙂
When you have higher self-esteem and the confidence that comes with valuing yourself, each step you take towards independence builds on the others and soon you are a full-fledged independent person, not limited by insecurities, out there “adulting” with the best of them!
So, raising your self-esteem is an important goal for those who want to live with confidence and freedom–which is most of us!
How to Raise Your Self-Esteem
Understanding what good self-esteem can do for you, the question is, how do I improve or raise my self-esteem? The following are great starter practices to turn into a routine that will boost your self-esteem in no time:
Affirm Your Worth
Off and on throughout your day, give yourself a pep talk in the mirror. Look yourself in the eye and talk to yourself as you would to a friend who needs encouragement. Remind yourself that you are strong, worthy, and valuable. You’re a unique person with great talent and gifts to offer to the world.
Refuse to Settle
You (as does everyone) deserve nothing but the best in life. Each time you choose to NOT settle, it reinforces your ideas of self-esteem and self-worth–which in turn makes it easier to not settle moving forward. Baby steps keep moving your forward 🙂
Stick to Your Guns
AKA persistence. Changing how you feel about yourself most likely will require sustained effort and a bit of time. So be patient and don’t try to do too much all at once (ala Mini-Habits) 🙂 Slow and steady and all that…and you will get there!
Raising your self-esteem will have a positive effect on every aspect of your life–in particular your confidence level and subsequently your independence. So, what are you waiting for? Get started today.
